Dear Parents and Well Wishers of SICA,
At the outset please let me welcome you to the website of South Indian Cultural Association, Indore. I would like to take this opportunity to share a brief history of what we affectionately call as SICA.
Handful of South Indians landed in the beautiful city of Indore in the early 1920's - who gradually settled and increased in numbers.
By the 1950s they conceived and gave life to their thought of having an Association of their own to promote the South Indian Cultural, Art, Music & Dance forms and promote other areas of South Indian tradition. Indore – the cosmopolitan and culturally dynamic heartland of Madhya Pradesh was chosen to be the city for setting up the said Association. At that time Indore was also famously known as the Manchester of India due to all its 6 Textile Mills running all shifts tirelessly.
The South Indians living in Indore then, who had primarily arrived here with an intention to make a livelihood decided to establish their cultural identity and in process gave birth to "South Indian Cultural Association" popularly known today as "SICA". And with that started the tradition of Carnatic Music, Bharatnatyam, other South Indian Dance forms, Dramas, Plays, and a range of other cultural activities. The local Indoreans too welcomed and responded warmly by attending to these programmes from time to time. Needless to add that they associated in every possible way – Be it physically, mentally, emotionally or financially.
This response from local people stimulated the handful of South Indians who were predominately from Tamil Nadu, apart from other parts of South India namely Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh, to form the association and name it as "SICA" in 1953-54. With the passage of time SICA built its own small building at 14 Sanghi Colony, Indore and started its first school in the year 1973, flagging off in a humble way with KG-I, II, and Class-I with just three teachers and about seventy five students.
Gradually with the passage of time, number of South Indian families grew to nearly 400 and simultaneously the Classes too were increased to up to 12th Standard [Scheme No 78]. Our efforts to provide quality education received a tumultuous response from one and all and this encouraged us to open our 2nd School up to 12th Standard at Scheme No. 54. These two schools at Scheme No 54 and Scheme No 78 are affiliated to CBSE, New Delhi that impart education across streams of Mathematics, Biology, Commerce, Computer Science, Bio-technology and Entrepreneurship to name a few.
You would be pleased to learn that today nearly 7500 children are being imparted quality education from Nursery to Class 12th through our network of SICA Schools. We also take pride in sharing that our commitment to deliver top quality education has reached beyond school education and have also expanded ourselves to offering graduation courses like B.Sc. and B.Com since last year.
Today, I wish to reiterate to all of you that as Chairman of the SICA Educational Trust, we adopt an uncompromising attitude towards imparting quality education to our children – our future. Quality education with a special thrust on English communication for our children will continue to be our area of focus. SICA School which has acquired and earned its repute as one of the best schools in Indore will continue to produce the best children across different streams of education and academics. To ensure this, we strongly rely on our team of +400 highly qualified and well trained teaching staff – many of whom have loyally and dedicatedly served this institution for many decades. This speaks volume of their highly cordial, affectionate and close-knit bonding with this institution, its management, students and their parents.
In all humility, I would also like to mention that SICA is second to none in giving equal and adequate thrust to sports and other extra-curricular activities to ensure all round development of our children and their personality. This is driven from our belief that Sports no longer remains a mere source of entertainment but has grown into being a highly respected and much aspired profession.
Before I conclude, I eagerly seek and look forward to the all round support from all my colleagues, parents, teachers, staff and above all – the loving and affectionate people of Indore in achieving this noble cause of service to the community and the society.
Lastly but most significantly, as the newly elected Chairman of the SICA Educational Trust for the next two years from 2014-2016, I commit that I shall leave no stones unturned in taking this great institution to greater heights. And as the famous quote by John Dewey says:
"Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself."
Inspired by this noble thought, I on behalf of my entire team commit that we will strive to impart complete and all round education to our children not only to make them successful human beings in their chosen careers but also hand hold to make them good and humble ambassadors of our society.
Thanking you and wishing all of you the very best in all your endeavours,
